Bucks and Jingle Cross

Dear readers, has anyone out there ever actually ran into a deer while riding their bike?

A couple days ago while riding the paved trail on the way out to Afton (along Hwy 10), I came within a foot of nailing a buck. He jumped onto the trail right next to me and I nearly shat my pants, but managed to avoid a collision. It would have been ugly.

Now it's time for Jingle Cross Rock.

Yes! I have had a run in with a deer. Three years ago was riding in our local woods, maybe 20mph. Jumped several deer to my left. The first two flew by in front, the third nailed me a good one. We both hit the dirt, looked at each other like it was the others fault, both got up and went our own way.

Fun stuff.....

Holy crap! Having a bike/deer collision is one of my worst fears. I'm scared enough of running over the damn squirrels (which are particularly slow & distracted this time of year). I'm glad you averted disaster!

Not on a bike but I have hit a deer on roller skis. Usally I can stop on a bike but roller skis arn't made to stop.

I was going down a paved hill once. It had been raining, so the pavement was wet. A deer started to run out in front of me and it slipped and fell. Then it tried to get up and fell again. Luckily I was able to slow up before I ran over it. Funny story though. See ya Sunday!

Hope your weekend went well.

I've cycled past deer on either side of me before but fortunately no collisions. Today, I cycled past about five vultures just a few feet away on the ground and thought about your blog post in the process. Fortunately the large birds flew AWAY from me as I approached and passed them!

I came close once out on a trail - 2 deer jumped across the trail right in front me. I was worried that as I reached their crossing spot, I would discover in a painful way that there was a third slacker deer lagging behind the group. Thankfully, I was wrong. Phew!!!
