Powderhorn CX

All the hype around this race totally got people out racing. Including my roommate, Paula! I've been trying to get her to do a CX race all year, and yesterday it finally happened. We rode over to the park, where we found the Fire Department hosing down the course. Awesome. Now they can add "CX race prep" to their areas of responsibility. We warmed up on the course, and I found it to be, um, hard. An S-turn through the mud, a fast down hill, a FAST set of double barriers, two stair run-ups, another steep ride/run-up, some twisting through trees, and then another barrier plus a run-up. I think Margot put it best:

Margot: "Did you ride the course yet?"
Me: "Yeah. Pretty hilly."
Margot: "I think I'm going to throw up today."
Me: "Are you sick?"
Margot: "No. It's just that kind of course."

In the end, I don't think anyone threw up, so I guess we weren't going hard enough. Paula's debut in CX went without a hitch, and she admitted afterwards that she actually had fun. The Bellas rocked out in the C race, with 4 women racing - Paula, Barb, Manda, and Angie - and a ton of Bella spectators out to support the racers! In the B race, it was Margot and me for the Bellas, both Lindas, and three other women. In the first lap, Linda S and I pulled away a little bit, and I was just focusing on staying on her wheel. After about 3 laps, she started to gap me, and the gap just kept opening little by little. The rest of the race went like this: ouch, ouch, wheeeeeeeee, ouch, ouch ouch, wheeeeeeeee, and so on. It was really fun! I had no mechanical issues! And Super-rookie totally beat me! It must be because he is awesome. I pulled off a second place (of the women) in the end, and I walked away with a Surly flask, so I was pretty psyched with that.

Does anyone have any photos of the day? All in all it was pretty awesome, with the sponsors, the refreshments, the warming stations, and straight up fun. Nice race!

Apparently I also bought a new (used) car today, which was shocking and stressful. But that's life sometimes!

I saw Super-rookie's true awesomeness when he blew by me and proceeded to pass several riders in the last lap! What a stud. And great riding from you too. You're getting faster,stronger,wiser...

I took a boatload. Not all good. But sitting at the top of the hill made for good picture taking.

Oh, and I'll go post some of my photos on the message board. My camera batteries died before I got any pics of you :-(

I'm blaming the hubby. It's his camera and I asked if it needed new batteries that morning. He said no. :-P

Sorry, I'm behind on blog-reading :-) I wish I was you! I love that Surly flask!! I can't have beer, so a flask is perfect. Tried to buy one, but they only took cash and I didn't have enough $$$$$ on hand. Now THAT'S a good day!! Hehe...now if I could just actually get a little BETTER at CX, roflmao!
