State CX - Done

My mom and I headed up to State CX race in Crystal in the Echo on Saturday morning (yes, that was 4 days ago) - we were going to ride up, but it was pretty chilly out, and I could see myself freezing my butt off if I didn't have a car to warm up in. I sent my mom to go get in line for registration while I went and got the bikes ready (my mom rode my Epic - 26 lbs is not light for a CX race!). We rode the course together, and realized it was going to be hard. It started on a loose gravel road then went onto a bumpy grass section, a set of double barriers, and then up a steep, but rideable, hill. Then around some chicanes, more grass, gravel, then a sweet single track section before a nasty run-up with gigantic steps. Ouch. Then a ripping downhill, more gravel, and a sweet stream/mud run-through.

There were actually quite a few women today, which was cool. My mother raced the Cs, or as she puts it, she "participated." She's awesome, in fact, I think she would be on team Awesome (LGR) for sure if she lived here.

There were 8 of us women in the B race, including both Lindas, and me and Maria for the Bellas. We started out pretty fast, or maybe it just seemed like that because I didn't get any warm-up in. We came up the rideable hill and then I dropped my chain when I skidded out in the chicane. So the Lindas gapped me at that point and I jumped back in the race in 4th or 5th place. I nailed it to try to get back up to the Lindas, and I almost caught them, but just couldn't hang on. I pretty much rode the whole race by myself in 3rd place after that - I can tell that my fitness is now on the DECLINE.

I had a fun race though. Patty Cakes made an encouraging comment using some mildly inappropriate language. I apparently "girled" dispencer, but I'm going to give him the credit for riding 144-spoke wheels - is that right? I picked up his bike (a singlespeed, too!) before the race to see how much 288 spokes weigh, and let me tell you, it's not light. Then Strats and Pete were there at the mud hole cheering. The mud hole was FUN! I wish we had a bit more mud in our CX season. I stayed to watch most of the A race and yelled for Skibby and Snide, but then I turned into an icicle, so I left. I have to get used to these cold temps still.

And, it's already hump day! Time to look ahead to the weekend - my first non-race weekend in a long time. Sweet!

Non-race weekend? What's that? The Wisconsin CX Championship beckons! State Street in Madison needs exploring! And you're just gonna laze around all weekend? What are you thinking?!?!?

Steven, no, I won't be lazing all weekend, unfortunately : ) I've got a long day of work on Saturday, which is why I've decided to not drive 8 hours to Madison and back on Sunday. Instead, I'll be sleeping in, eating waffles, catching up with friends, taking a nap, watching a movie from my couch -- thanks for the suggestions Steve-o!

FYI Spencer...as you witnessed last weekend, Karla is fast. Ever thought about recruiting her for LGR?
