Track Rocks. Seriously.
So far this season, it's been mostly the Jav and the Lemond (both road bikes). But this week has been a week of new things! Tuesday evening I got home, busted out the Epic, and headed over to Werth. So much fun! I'd forgotten how much I love singletrack. My shining moment was on the way out -- there was a 6" wide bridge that had a couple peaks in it. (You know, like a mtb obstacle thing). I wasn't feeling super sharp, so I wouldn't have tried to go over it, but there happened to be a couple guys standing there, taking their bikes around the side of it.
They looked at me and were like, "Go ahead!"
So I thought, well, crap. And I went over it flawlessly! It wasn't hard, but I'm usually that girl that tries to show off, totally flubs it up somehow, and ends upsidedown with a brake lever in her leg. Anyway, I figured I have to get my mtb skills sharpened up if I expect to do 24 hours of 9 mile. Call me crazy, but I'm going to try to do the 12 hour solo race.
Then, last night, Sarah got a Bella track night organized. I rode my bike up to the velodrome from work, where I rented a track bike and promptly freaked out. The walls are supposedly banked at 43 degrees, but they looked pretty vertical to me. But Sarah and Barb talked me through it and pretty soon I was riding around the track. Amazing. It's a little bit like a rollercoaster on a bike, except you have total control over it. And I just couldn't get over the fact that to pass someone on the curve, you don't really go "around" them, you go "above" them.
So tonight I'm headed up to the track for the Thursday night race series. We'll see how that goes. I plan to hang out at the back and not take anyone out. Hope to see a lot of people up there!
