Weekend!
How is the week already over? A few highlights:
Sunday, after sleeping into the late morning, I set out on my bike, intending to do a 3ish hour ride. An hour in I get a phone call from GP boy #1, seeing if I wanted to do a nice 2.5 hour ride with him and GP boy #2. Of course! So I stopped for some coffee and a snack and headed over to St Paul to meet them. About an hour later I find myself hanging onto the wheels of GP boys #1 and #2 on my way to Afton. Yes, Annie, I am a wheelsucker. It's always beautiful riding out there, and we definitely spent some time sitting at the cafe in Afton talking about maturity (or lack thereof) levels. On the way home, I was getting pretty worked, and I almost asked the GP boys to slow down, but I told myself to just suck it up. It worked. By the time I finally pedaled myself home, it turned out to be 5 hours on the bike. I think that's the first time I've accidentally ridden 5 hours.
Tuesday, Opus was, according to Maria, probably the funnest Opus of the year. Which, if you know Maria, is pretty big. Even she seemed suprised that she didn't have anything to complain about after the race. I started to get a bit intimidated at the start as all the tough gals started showing up -- two Flanders, three cat 2 Bellas, some Bettys, one U of M, and the cyclocross champ from last season. But the race went well, no one pushed the pace too hard and I managed to hang on, even through the primes. Maria, as usual, did a fair share of pulling at the front, so I went up to do the work on a few laps to let her try to save those legs for the sprints! My legs are still completely oblivious to my efforts to produce a decent sprint, unfortunately, but I'm OK with that. Maybe someday they'll learn. I pulled the field around the last lap (if I hadn't, Maria would've) and then sat up and let them duke it out for the final sprint. Fun stuff!
Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and tomorrow I'm leaving at 5:45am to go to Wisconsin with the Belgian Bella for some sweet racing. So that would mean I'm signing off now and going to PTFO.
